TIRUCHI: Mouth-watering array of cakes of different sizes and shapes prepared and presented by a group of bakery-owners and masters welcomed the guests at a contest ‘Cake festival 2009’ organised in the city on Sunday.

The event provided an opportunity to the cake-makers to bring out their creativity. The contest organised as part of the tenth anniversary of the Masterline, the trademark for the products of Bunge India Pvt. Ltd., was aimed at bringing out the latent talents of the bakery-owners and cake-makers.

With Christmas round the corner, the contest also focused on bringing out the best of the talents from different parts of the state.

Tremendous response

“There has been an overwhelming response from the participants in the past few years for the competition. From less than 50 five years, the number of contestants has risen to 82 this year,” says Bunge manager V. Muralidharan. The company supplied the ingredients for the bakery contest.

Each of 82 cakes was distinct in its own shape, size, colour and appearance. “In addition to these fundamental aspects, the selection of the winners was based on their creativity too,” says Mr. Muralidharan.

While a number of wedding cakes adorned one corner of the hall where contest was organised, at the other end were a number of cream and butter cakes.

The incorporation of a few slogans such as “Mother’s love”; “Keep your city clean”; “Unity prevents terrorism”; stood for the creativity of the cake-makers.

The MLA Anbil Periyasamy, who inaugurated the contest, appreciated the endeavour taken by the Bunge in motivating the bakery-owners towards ensuring quality in the art of preparing the cakes.

The following were adjudged the winners in the contest for ‘Wedding cake’: C. Mani of K.R. Bakery, Karur – first prize; Marimuthu of Master Bakery in Sivagangai – second prize; Rajesh of Uma Home Bread in Nagapattinam – third prize.

In the ‘Butter cream cake’ contest, Sivasubramani of Sumathy Sweets, Karur; Kumar of Natural Iyengar Bakery in Madurai and Ramamurthy of Indian Bakery in Sivakasi won the first, second and third prizes respectively.
