KOCHI: Candidates belonging to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) cast their votes early in the morning here on Saturday. Dominic Presentation, UDF candidate, exercised his franchise at St. John’s LP School in Elamkulam while P. N. Seenulal, LDF candidate, cast his vote at Don Bosco LP School at Vaduthala. Accompanied by party workers, Mr. Presentation exuded confidence and said that he was hopeful of a victory. Stating that the voter turnout would go up, he said the UDF was successful in garnering the support of various sections of the voters in the constituency. Mr. Seenulal said that the wind was in favour of the LDF. He said the people would vote for a change in the byelection. V.R. Krishna Iyer, former Supreme Court judge, exercised his franchise at the S. R. V. High School in the morning. He said that byelection would help in strengthening democracy. Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil exercised his franchise at St. Mary’s LP School at Market Road. Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran, cast her vote at the Elamkulam village office.
