Smog plays spoilsport

GREATER NOIDA: Smog played spoilsport as only seven professionals out of 52 could complete their third round in the Rs. 1 crore BILT Open tournament at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort here on Saturday.

The third round started six hours behind schedule as the National Capital Region was enveloped by smog for most part of the day.

By the time play was suspended due to bad light and poor visibility, overnight leader Anirban Lahiri was sitting comfortably atop the leaderboard with a five-stroke lead.

Lahiri, who had a score of 131 after the second round, could finish the front nine of his third round with a decent effort of two birdies and an eagle (on the fourth) for a total of 17-under after 45 holes.

“I am pleased that I kept the momentum going today. I am well placed at this stage but will not take anything for granted as it is going to be a long day tomorrow. I will just try to stay calm and positive,” Lahiri said.

At 12-under, Delhi golfers Naman Dawar and Himmat Singh Rai were tied for the second position. Dawar fired five birdies on the 11 holes he completed in the penultimate round. Rai gained three shots on his nine holes.

Harendra Gupta was at the fourth place as his total read 11-under after 11 holes in round three. — Sports Reporter
