Yeddyurappa breaks down

J. Balaji

NEW DELHI: Even as general secretary M. Venkaiah Naidu said that the political crisis in the Karnataka BJP would come to an end on Sunday, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa declared that the issue had been “resolved” and thanked the high command for reposing faith in his leadership.

Mr. Yeddyurappa, talking to journalists on Saturday, refused to give details of the compromise formula. Meanwhile, during a TV interview to a Kannada channel, Mr. Yeddyurappa broke down and confessed he had “ditched” confidants under pressure from the Reddy brothers.

He apologised to flood victims, saying the crisis had distracted him from the rehabilitation work.

“For my selfish ends, I was forced to ditch those who were my trusted people. Be it [Minister] Shobha or [his Principal Secretary] V.P. Baligar. Even God will not forgive me for this.”
