APPA goes hi-tech

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: From classroom lessons to alerts through short message service! The Andhra Pradesh Police Academy - the premier police training in the State - is going high-tech by sending alerts through SMS to all policemen on mobile phones on a gamut of subjects like law, forensic sciences and fitness.

This new initiative making use of advances in communication technology would help the policemen update their knowledge and the academy expand its services. These professional tips relating to law, Supreme Court judgements, forensic medicine, investigation, computers and cyber crime would be sent initially to approximately 5,000 police officials using the police Closed User Group package, APPA Director C.N. Gopinath Reddy, said in a press release.

Christened APPALERTS, the e-learning facility on SMS platform was being launched with the help of Hyderabad-based Voicegate Technologies. The alerts would be customised according to the needs of the different wings of the Police Department like law and order, traffic, crime investigation department and ministerial staff.

The academy decided to disseminate the ever-expanding knowledge to all policemen outside it in the form of SMS alerts, APPA DIG R.S. Praveen Kumar, explained.
