VIZIANAGARAM: Families displaced by Thotapalli barrage works have threatened to stop river gap works if rehabilitation package is not paid fully to the eligible, including house-sites to people over 18 years of age. Bantu Dasu, State vice-president of Project Nirvasithula Sangham told reporters on Saturday that though 90 per cent of Thotapalli works were completed, R & R package to at least 50 per cent of the displaced families was not paid so far. The families had been agitating time and again for the package for the last four years. Keeping in view Peddagedda project issue where displaced families were not paid R & R package after the river gap was plugged, Mr. Dasu said that there was no urgent need to plug the river gap at Thotapalli as execution of right and left bank canals was not completed. He said that displaced families would once again stop river gap works if their demands were not met. N. Sadanandam, sarpanch of Naviri village, said that 150 displaced families were issued pattas but they were not given possession of the land. Following administrative apathy, some had migrated to other places, while a few had been living in rented houses elsewhere for the last three years, the sarpanch lamented. Dali Naidu of Duggi village said that 3.72 acres of his zirayati land in survey No. 97/2 was acquired for the project but he was not paid compensation till date. Buridi Simhachalam of Gunanupuram village said that the administration had approved R & R package for 605 displaced persons in the village but 60 of them were denied the package due to political pressure.
