Crisis resolved: Yeddyurappa

NEW DELHI: Even as general secretary M. Venkiah Naidu said that the political crisis in the Karnataka BJP would come to an end on Sunday, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa declared that the issue had been “resolved” and thanked the high command for reposing faith in his leadership.

He was confident that he would complete his full term.

Mr. Yeddyurappa, talking to journalists on Saturday, refused to give details of the compromise formula. Later he left for Vaishnodevi temple in Katara near Jammu and returned to the city in the evening to talk to senior party leaders. He had been asked to stay put in Delhi for another day.

Meanwhile, in a TV interview for a Kannada channel, Mr. Yeddyurappa broke down and confessed he had “ditched” confidantes under pressure from the rebel Ministers, the Reddy brothers.

He also apologised to the flood victims saying the crisis had distracted him from the rehabilitation work. “For my selfish ends, I was forced to ditch those who were my trusted people. Be it [Minister] Shobha or [his Principal Secretary] V.P. Baligar. Even God will not forgive me for this.”

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, who was here, dismissed reports that certain people in Andhra Pradesh were fuelling dissidence in the Karnataka BJP.
