Sonia Gandhi will decide CLP meeting date: Rosaiah

First visit by A.P. Chief Minister to Delhi after taking charge

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Saturday said Congress president Sonia Gandhi will decide the date for convening the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting. “She may fix the date and inform us.”

Mr. Rosaiah, who was here on a maiden visit after taking over as the Chief Minister, was talking to journalists after meeting Ms. Gandhi to discuss the political situation.

She enquired about the pending public interest litigation in the Andhra Pradesh High Court about the CLP meeting and later told him that she would speak to the Law Minister and Congress general secretary in charge of the State M. Veerappa Moily about the date and the latter would “get back to me.”

‘No reservations’

Asked whether he was getting cooperation from the Ministers and MLAs or he had any reservation about their behaviour, he replied: “there is no reservation. They were cooperating to the extent possible and unlike other parties every Congressman would abide by the directions of the high command.”

From the level of the Chief Minister to those at the grassroot level, everyone would look up for advice from the leadership.

When questioned on whether he was comfortable with the arrangement and was confident of holding the post for the full term, Mr. Rosaiah said he was always “comfortable and satisfied.” There was no question of fixed tenure for the Chief Minister.

Both Ms. Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expected from him, like they expected from any other Chief Minister, to take the party and the administration together forward.

Mr. Rosaiah said he did not feel insulted by the decision of Women and Child Development Minister Konda Surekha to hand over her resignation letter directly to the Governor instead of him.
