Course on e-business for women

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: Bharathidasan University will soon offer a diploma or certificate course on e-business to benefit promising women entrepreneurs capable of taking up prospective industrial vocations, its Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko, said on Thursday.

Delivering the valedictory address at the ten-day ‘management development programme on computer skill for e-business’ organised jointly by the University’s Department of Women’s Studies; the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute, New Delhi and the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu, here on Thursday, Dr. Ponnavaikko said that the diploma or certificate course would empower the women entrepreneurs with basic competence for taking up e-business such as submission of tenders by reputed organisations in the order of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.

The syllabus content would be evolved by the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD) of the University.

He advised the trainees to float an e-club as a platform for interface with experts and consultants.

In reply to a plea by the Director and Head, Department of Women’s Studies, N. Manimekalai, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the fee structure would be affordable to encourage the entrepreneurs.

Ms. Manimekalai said that the training programme was conducted exclusively to benefit 44 women on engineering and fabrication works of the BHEL.

The basic skills such as e-governance on sales tax management; e-business techniques; maintenance of records in conformity with BHEL norms and the application, limitation and utility of e-business in their vocation were imparted to the trainees.

The vice-president of BHEL Small Scale Industries Association, Rajappa Rajkumar, assured all possible assistance to the trainees in handling their business.

He also explained the strict procedure to be followed while taking up tenders and ensuring the timely delivery of goods, without any time-over-run.

The growth and development of BHEL in Tiruchi had spared the district’s industrialists and suppliers of any adverse impact caused by the economic meltdown, he added.

The Assistant Director, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute, N. Srinivasalu offered felicitations. The Vice-Chancellor gave away certificates to the trainees on the occasion.
