Coimbatore: Serial blast case convicts discharged from the prison recently have appealed to the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, to provide houses or at least house sites for them. As many as 31 convicts in a memorandum to the Chief Minister in Coimbatore recently pointed out that prior to their arrest in the blast case, most of the prisoners were wage earners. After imprisonment and conviction, the families have been pushed to poverty. Even after two years after discharge from prison, the prisoners were carrying on their livelihood with just Rs. 100 to Rs. 125 per day as wages. The petition said that none of them owned an house and could not afford to pay house rents. The prisoners were struggling to even repay the instalments for the loans that they had availed.
