Assn. seeks recognition

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Police Constabulary Association (TNPCA) has written to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi seeking recognition in the backdrop of two Government Orders issued in favour of forming police associations in the past. In his representation the TNPCA president G. Sivakumar said the association was registered and had a membership of about 15,000 police personnel in different ranks across the State.

Besides the Indian Police Service (IPS) officers had an association, the Railway Protection Force and police in many States in the country were allowed to form associations. Mr.Sivakumar said though the association had agreed to comply with the conditions of the Government, the department had rejected an appeal for recognition.
