VISAKHAPATNAM: Tribal Welfare Minister, Pasupuleti Balaraju, on Saturday, instructed officials concerned to make coordinated efforts to tap the latent talent in tribals. They were endowed with immense potential in some of the traditional sports like kabaddi, archery etc., the Minister said. Inaugurating football and archery competitions at the Government High School premises in Paderu, about 120 km from here, the Minister mentioned the names of sportspersons like Varalakshmi, Appanna Dora and Suribabu, who made their mark in sports at the national level. They made their mark without any help from the Government and all should try to emulate them, he said. As part of Government policy to distribute sports equipment, the district was allocated equipment worth Rs.1.25 crore in the first phase. He had instructed officials concerned to send indents for supply of two pairs of sports wear, shoes etc to the poor but talented sports persons in the district.
