Viral fevers, dengue cases on rise in five mandals

Special Correspondent

GUNTUR: Viral fevers and dengue cases are on the rise in Guntur district with Vinukonda, Macherla, Perecherla, Sattenapalle and Tadepalle becoming the focal points, where a number of cases were reported.

So far the district medical authorities reported four deaths due to fevers.

Special ward

District Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu on Saturday visited the Guntur Government General Hospital, where a special ‘Fevers’ ward has been opened in view of the large number of cases being referred to them from Area Hospitals and PHCs.

One in every five cases coming to GGH with symptoms of fever were testing positive for dengue, but there was nothing to panic as sufficient care was being taken by doctors to provide immediate medical care and attention.

"We need to concentrate on the measures to prevent them through better public health measures," Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said after holding a review meeting with District Medical and Health Officer M. Balaji Naik and GGH Superintendent D. Phanibhushan on the overall situation and action to be taken.

Awareness programmes

District administration would concentrate on improving awareness on the steps to be taken by people to prevent getting fevers by keeping their environs clean and stop breeding of mosquitoes, which were spreading chikungunya and dengue fevers, he added.

About 1,056 villages in the district would be visited by the medical and para-medical staff to create awareness through some innovative programmes, the Collector said.
