Guntur
Patriotic fervour: Bajarang Dal activists taking out a rally with National Flag in Guntur on Saturday. — GUNTUR: Activists of Bajarang Dal Sena on Saturday took a massive rally on Guntur Roads with a more than 100-foot long National Flag protesting against the recent call for ban on singing of Vandemataram song. The activists tried to enter the District Collector’s office, but were stopped by the police. The activists stood on the road and rendered the Vandemataram song as a protest against the ‘ban’. The Bajaranag Dal district leader Anil Kumar said during the national convention of Jamat-e-Ulema on November 2 it had issued a ‘fatwa’ against reciting India’s National song Vandemataram. The Muslim Ulema had stated that certain lines in the song violated the spirit of Islam. The rally wound its way from the Bhajarang Dal’s office in Brodipet via Sankar Vilas Centre and Arundelpet Over Bridge and Hindu College Centre before reaching the District Collector’s office. National Mahamantra was written by Bankimchandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875. This song was published in the novel ‘Anandmath’ at that time, he explained. The vocabulary used in this song was influenced by Sanskrit. The book contains information about the violent revolt of sanyasis against injustice inflicted by various groups in Bengal in 1772.
