Rs. 43 crore realised through e-payment in the month of October The electronic mode is mandatory for dealers with more than Rs. 200 crore annual turnover COIMBATORE: The Department of Commercial Taxes has launched e-payment facility for dealers here. In October, Rs. 43 crore was realised through e-payment here. According to a release, the e-payment scheme was presently offered in association with the State Bank of India. The department proposed to involve more nationalised banks for the scheme. The electronic mode was mandatory for dealers with more than Rs. 200 crore annual turnover. The dealers should make a request to the Department to make the e-payment and they would be authorised by the department to do so. At a meeting organised here recently by the State Bank of India and the Department, a bank official said in October, Rs. 963 crore of the total Rs. 2,300 crore commercial tax was collected through e-payment in the State. Central Excise, Service Tax and Income Tax departments had e-payment facility. The system was different for commercial taxes as e-filing and e-payment should be made simultaneously. Ajay Yadav, the Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) of the Department, said about 90,000 dealers have registered in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris Commercial Taxes districts. Of these, 45,000 were paying the tax and the rest were dealing with non-taxable goods. Those handling non-taxable goods should file the annual returns. The department was taking steps to ensure that all dealers filed the returns. In Coimbatore, Value Added Tax collection had increased by 10 per cent.
