KOZHIKODE: The All Kerala Retail Ration Dealer’s Association has urged the Director of Civil Supplies to put in place a system for correcting errors in photo-affixed ration cards and also for issuing new ration cards. In a memorandum to the Director, association working president M.V. Basheer sought arrangements for correcting errors in ration cards at offices of Taluk Supply Officer\City Rationing Officer. The government has ordered introduction of new ration cards from November 1. But, updating of card registers based on new cards was not completed at ration shops. The registers updated by writing could be handed over to ration card holders only after inspection. Every ration shop has card holders numbering between 600 and 1,000. Each rationing inspector will have charge of about 40 to 60 ration shops. Mr. Basheer pointed out that it was understood earlier that the new cards would be come into effect from January 1, 2010. However, only by October end it was known that the new cards would be introduced from November 1.
