KHAMMAM: CPI deputy general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy on Saturday said the electoral reverses suffered by the Left parties in the last general elections would not have any effect on their spirits. Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the party Khammam district council office building, he said the poll reverses might appear as a set back if the number of seats won by the Left parties was taken as the measure of their strengthen. But it would be a temporary phenomenon. The Communists parties had in fact polled more votes compared to the elections in 2009. He hoped that the new building of the party would emerge as the base for rebuilding the Communist movement in its traditional stronghold, Khammam. The Communist parties alone could fight for addressing the key issues pertaining to people and help outwit the influence of money power. The mining mafia in Bellary had sought to dictate terms in Karnataka politics. CPI State secretary K. Narayana said the CPI should emerge in the district as strong as the pillars of the new building of the party district council office. CPI Central Council member and MLC Puvvada Nageswara Rao said the electoral gains made by the CPI in thedistrict in last election had contributed to raising expectations and the party would strive to live up to the expectations of the people. Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, B. Chandravathi, Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, all MLAs, Potla Nageswar Rao, MLC, B Hemanta Rao, CPI district secretary and P. Sudarshan Rao, CPI(M) district secretary, were among those who took part.
