A ‘Book walk’ will be organised in the town on Nov. 16 Book hunt competition also planned for students on Nov. 20 KHAMMAM: District Collector V. Usharani said on Saturday that the Khammam Book Festival will be organised at pavilion grounds in the town by the District Tourism Promotion Council in association with the Vijayawada Book Festival from November 14 to 22. Addressing a news conference here, she said some 60 participants, particularly publishers from within the State as well as outside, were expected to take part in the festival. Minister for Cooperation, Labour and Employment R. Venkata Reddy will inaugurate the festival. A book walk would be organised from the collectorate to the pavilion grounds involving local poets, students, writers and book lovers on November 16. A book hunt competition was also planned for the students on November 20. Other highlights of the festival would be ‘Hasyakavi sammelanam’ on November 15, ‘Astavadhanam’ on November 16, Yuva Kavi Sammelanam on November 17, ‘Kavi Sammelanam’ on November 18 and ‘Burrakatha on Palanati Yudham’ on November 19, She said the book festival was being organised to encourage the habit of book reading, which was under threat from the onslaught of the visual media. A free stall would be allotted for the display and sale of the books of the local writers and poets. District Public Relations Officer Johnson Prasad and tourism officer Suman Chakravarthy were also present.
