Transfer of officials condemned

Special Correspondent

Government urged to adopt Maharashtra model

‘State Government should boost morale

of employees’

GULBARGA: The Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association has said that the en masse transfer of senior officials in Bellary district smacks of political opportunism and vengeance.

President of the association L. Byrappa told presspersons here on Saturday that such transfers by the Government would affect the morale of officials. Mr. Byrappa alleged that irrational and indiscriminate transfers had become the order of the day after the Bharatiya Janata Party Government came to power in the State. He called for boosting the morale of government officials by evolving a transfer policy on the Maharashtra model.

In Maharashtra, when a senior official was transferred, he would not come up for transfers for the next two years, he said. Such a policy was required in Karnataka, he said.

Clarifying the issue of flood relief donation by State government employees, Mr. Byrappa said that the association had decided to donate a day’s salary and four months arrears of dearness allowance (DA) that the Government owed its employees, to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He said that the Government should utilise the donations made by the State Government employees, the public and the funds provided by the Union Government to take up relief and reconstruction activities in the affected areas. Earlier, Mr. Byrappa inaugurated the computerisation of the office of the district unit of the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association. District president B.S. Desai was present.
