VIJAYAWADA: The Maris Stella College has bagged two awards at the 33rd Foundation Day celebrations of Acharya Nagarjuna University. In the inter-collegiate competition amongst 485 colleges under the purview of the ANU, the college was adjudged the best in the library category and second best in the laboratory category. Book bankAnnouncing this at a press conference on Saturday, college principal P. Japamalai said they had a huge library with 70,000 titles, 86 magazines, 45 national journals, 15 international journals and 15 e-journals. “During the current academic year, we have added about 4,000 titles to the library and received a grant of Rs. 20 lakhs under the college with potential for excellence for purchasing books,” she explained. Ms. Japamalai said the book bank facility available in the college was useful for about 400 students hailing from the below poverty line families. Referring to the laboratory, she said that the college had six laboratories, one each for physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, electronics and computers, with modern facilities. “We have competed with engineering colleges in the inter-collegiate competition,” she said. SeminarsThe principal said the college would conduct three national seminars in November, December and January.
