VIJAYAWADA: The Suraksha Health Village, located on Gurunanak Colony Road, has come out with a six-month short-term course to provide basic knowledge of a wide range of much sought-after subjects like Ayurveda and Panchakarma.

The course will be offered from November 14 to coincide with the jayanthi celebrations of Lord Dhanwantari, worshipped as the god of Ayurveda since ancient times.

The syllabus also includes fundamentals of herbal medicine, physiotherapy, house-hold remedies and a variety of techniques to prepare ayurvedic medicine.

Suraksha director K. Manikyeswara Rao and K. Poorna Rajeswari said on Saturday that there was a need for creating awareness among the public about the scientific use of ayurvedic and other medical practices, as these involved treatment of diseases without using drugs that had side effects.

Botanical tours

Addressing a press conference here, Dr. Rao said that the course would include botanical tours to places like Srisailam, Kondaveedu, Araku and other such places where medicinal plants were aplenty. Highly qualified professors having a lot of experience would teach the students of this course.

Those, who complete the course, could start a health clinic under the guidance of a qualified doctor. Also, the trained people could find job opportunities in ayurvedic and such hospitals where they practise panchakarma to cure diseases, Dr. Rao informed.
