The children will be shown a variety of plants in the nursery, the methods of preparing vermi compost, conversion of waste into manure, green house effects and procedures of planting saplings. There are about 100 varieties of flower, fruit, ornamental, avenue and domestic plants available in the nursery spread over 5.5 acres. Mr. Vishnu said the organisation has been implementing many programmes and plans for eco-conservation and environmental development in its jurisdiction. As part of the Children’s Day celebrations, VUDA has decided to involve children and educational institutions in the mission of developing green surroundings. This year VUDA planned to distribute 15,000 saplings to children and educational institutions through the Children Club. Apart from distributing saplings as participation prize, it was also decided to distribute required number of plants to schools having space on their campus. The school managements can avail this opportunity and procure saplings free of cost by submitting a letter from the principal or correspondent of the school. Saplings to schools will be distributed at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Further details can be had from Mr. Reddy (98660 76932) or B.V.A. Krishna Murthy, DFO, VUDA (98660 76914).
