Visakhapatnam
VISAKHAPATNAM: Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Visakhapatnam Range, Soumya Misra, has advised gynaecologists to create health awareness among women. Delivering the inaugural address at Fine Tune 2009, the 43rd Continuing Medical Education programme of Obstetric and Gynaecologists Society, Visakhapatnam, here on Saturday, she pointed out that it was on the woman on whom the mantle of maintaining the family was placed and she could make or break the home. Therefore, she should not be a victim of her own body, she felt. Dr. Soumya Misra, who has a Ph.D. in women’s studies, also advocated sexual rights for women. The decision-making power whether to have a child or not should be vested with the woman. “When a woman does not have the decision-making power, how can her children be morally, psychologically and physically strong?” she asked. Principal of Andhra Medical College G. Bhagya Rao, who presided, stated that the OGSV did excellent work, good research and regularly conducted CME programmes, now called professional development programme (PDP), and knowledge updates.
