TIRUPATI: It is no magic. No fewer than 500 magicians, including some top names in the field, from all over India converged at the temple city of Tirupati for the two-day ‘National Annual Magic Convention’.

The event, christened ‘Jantar Mantar-2009’ is being held for the second consecutive year in Tirupati by the organisers – ‘RK’s Wonder World’ following the overwhelming public response to the event last year.

Among the leading lights of the ‘magic world’ taking part in the convention are Alex from Tamil Nadu, who incidentally holds the Guinness record for 24-hour non-stop magic show. Alex who is also Kollywood actor known for his anti-hero roles was felicitated at the inaugural session of the convention.

Big names

Other noted magicians who would be seen in action were K.S. Ramesh from Bangalore, who played the real role of a magician in Singeetham Srinivasa Rao’s silent movie ‘Pushpak’, Sarang from Kerala and Ali from Hyderabad.

Veteran magician from Hyderabad B.N.S. Kumar formally declared open the show while Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirumala, Cinnamgari Ramana was the chief guest.

Incidentally, TTD was providing all the logistics for the convention.

Besides the ‘grand gala’ open to public shows in the evenings, the two-day event would have lecture-cum-demonstration classes in the mornings in which both magic wizards and upcoming artistes would participate and exchange views. Competitions for budding artistes also form part of the two-day event. Ravi Reddy, a local magician earlier welcomed the delegates at the meet.
