Innings win for Bengal

KOLKATA: Bengal took less than half an hour on Saturday morning to beat Hyderabad by an innings and 73 runs on the final day of the four-day Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite Group ‘A’ league game at the Jadavpur University Campus here.

Resuming at the overnight score of 158 for eight, Hyderabad added a further seven runs before Sarvesh Kumar was dismissed by Sayan Sekhar Mondal.

With the injured Benjamin Thomas unable to bat, the innings was terminated at 165 for nine in 64 overs.

The win, first for Bengal, earned the host six points including one bonus for the innings victory. Bengal’s points tally stood at seven points from three games. Hyderabad lost its second match and stayed on five points earned from its victory against Saurashtra.

In New Delhi, the match between Delhi and Tamil Nadu ended in a draw. Delhi got three points, while Tamil Nadu managed one.

With a total of 15 points, Tamil Nadu has qualified for the knockout round. Delhi has gathered four points.

The scores:

Elite group: At Kolkata: Hyderabad 142 and 165 for eight (M. Ashrafuddin four for 40, S.S. Mondal four for 43) lost to Bengal 380 (R. Banerjee 111, S. Khan 62, S. Pakre 42).

At New Delhi: Delhi 189 and 266 drew with Tamil Nadu 144 and 92 for three (Surya Prakash 36, Kaushik Gandhi 33).

At Bangalore: Karnataka 325 and 17 for no loss drew with Orissa 372 (Biplab Samantray 38, Abrar Kazi three for 83, M.R. Darshan six for 96).

Plate Group: At Palakkad: Kerala 188 and 320 in 119.2 overs (P.M. Jineesh 111) drew with Tripura 253 & 101 for eight in 52 overs (Manu Krishnan four for 22, M.E. Sanuth three for 32).
