Bangalore: The Karnataka Offset Printers’ Association (KOPA) on Friday celebrated Printers’ Day to mark the birth anniversary of Alois Senefelder who invented the printing technique of lithography in the 1790s. On the occasion, KOPA honoured veteran printers Bhadragiri Sarvothama Pai, who founded Sudhindra Printers in Bangalore, and the association with “The Pundit of Printing” award, and Octogenarian printer Ganesh Subbaraya Yaji of Malnad Printing Press, Chikmagalur. Kallur Bai, Sumaiya Banu and Shwetha, students of the Government Institute of Printing Technology, who excelled in their studies, were felicitated. KOPA president Naga Sundar said the association had plans to adopt two students of printing technology every year. The association would take care of their study expenses and also help them with jobs once they completed their studies. KOPA had taken this initiative as there was a dearth of qualified operators and technicians. He said KOPA would soon open The Offset Printers Technology Centre (TOPTEC) to train printers and their employers.
