Transfer of judge cancelled
J. Venkatesan
NEW DELHI: Now that the elevation of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran to the Supreme Court has been put on hold, the transfer of Chief Justice Jasti Chelameswar from the Gauhati High Court to the Karnataka High Court has been cancelled.
Highly placed sources said the cases of Justices Chelameswar and Ibrahim Kalifulla, the seniormost judge of the Madras High Court, (the recommendation to elevate him as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court has been cancelled), would be considered once the Justice Dinakaran controversy — over allegations that he encroached on government land in a village in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district — was settled.
Justice Dipak Misra of the Madhya Pradesh High Court is being elevated as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, and Justice Mohit S. Shah of the Gujarat High Court as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
