VISAKHAPATNAM: State-wide maintenance haemodialysis under the Arogya Sri health insurance scheme of the State Government for the patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases, commenced at the King George Hospital here on Friday. Minister for Arogya Sri Pithani Satyanarayana inaugurated the ward in the new Super Specialities block of KGH in the presence of Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju and others. The dialysis facility was also commissioned at the Osmania and Gandhi general hospitals in Hyderabad on Friday, but without any officials function due to the code of conduct in force for the ensuing GHMC elections. He made a patient, P. Lakshmi Hymavathi of Poosapatirega in Vizianagaram district, to light a lamp to formally inaugurate the programme. Mr. Satyanarayana said since its beginning in April, 4.18 lakhs patients have benefited and Rs. 1,285 crores were spent. Mr. Satyanarayana said he would take up with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, sanction of Rs. 11 crores for construction of two more floors of the SS block and improve the 104 service in the tribal and rural areas. Union Minister of State for HRD D. Purandeswari, who joined the programme later, appreciated the late Rajasekhara Reddy for planning and executing the Arogya Sri scheme.
