THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nirmala College of Engineering upset host LNCPE 1-0 and entered the semifinals of the SAI-LNCPE inter-collegiate football tournament at the LNCPE football ground on Friday. Judil Varghese scored the all-important goal in the fifth minute. In the semifinals, Nirmala College will meet MA College (Kothamangalam) which came back from behind to beat SN College (Kannur) 3-2. SN College led 2-0 through goals from Ajaesh (15th) and Visakh (45th). However, MAS College struck back through Vinil in the 52nd minute and Joemon snatched the equaliser in the 57th minute. Vinil scored again in the 65th minute to take his team to an unlikely win. Earlier in the pre-quarterfinals, Nirmala College defeated Sacred Hearts Thevera 3-1. Vipin Das (32nd), N. Mujeeb (54th), Sujil (67th) scored for Nirmala while Rekhil (64th) reduced the margin for Sacred Hearts. University College (Thiruvananthapuram) defeated School of Physical Education (Kannur) by a solitary goal to enter the semifinals. Visakh scored the match-winner in the 40th minute. University College will meet St. Xavier’s College (Thumba) in the semifinals.
