Chirag United posts win

BARASAT: Chirag United SC reclaimed its position on top of the standings beating Salgaocar SC by two second session goals in a seventh round encounter of the ONGC I-League here at the Vidyasagar Stadium on Friday.

Brazilian striker Joshimar Da Silva struck both the goals to help the home side pick full points against the former National Football League (previous name of I-League) champion.

The visitor held on strongly against the attacks in the first session, which ended goalless. The defence however, gave away after the break as the host doubled its efforts.

The goal came in the 52nd minute when Edmilson collected a through pass from midfielder Denson Devadas and set Joshimar to finish placing the ball clear inside the Salgoacar box.

Joshimar struck again in the 68th minute making the most of a mis-pass from Salgaocar defender Gurpreet Singh.

United SC tallies 5 points to remain three points clear of Goa’s Dempo SC, which has played a match less. Salgaocar has six points from as many matches. — Principal Correspondent
