KOLKATA: Bengal was poised to win its Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite group ‘A’ league match against Hyderabad by an innings. At stumps on the penultimate day of the four-day game at the Jadavpur Univesity 2nd campus, Hyderabad was tottering at 158 for eight in 58 overs chasing Bengal’s 238-run first innings lead. Hyderabad would need to get 80 runs more with two wickets in hand to make Bengal bat again. Resuming at 299 for seven, Bengal’s tail wagged vigorously with Soumya Pakre (42), Amit Banerjee (29) and M. Ashrafuddin (25) using the long handle effectively to take the home team’s first innings total to 380. When Hyderabad batted for the second time, Ashrafuddin (four for 37) and Sayan Sekhar Mondal (three for 43) bowled superbly to reduce the game to a no-contest. At Bangalore, Orissa was poised to take the first innings lead over Karnataka at the end of the third day’s play at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium. Overnight 59 for one, Orissa steadily built its innings to finish the day at 293 for five in 129 overs against Karnataka’s first innings score of 325. The scores: Elite Group: At Kolkata: Hyderabad 142 and 158 for eight (M. Ashrafuddin four for 37, S.S. Mondal three for 43) vs Bengal 380 (R. Banerjee 111, S. Khan 62, S. Pakre 42). At New Delhi: Delhi 189 and 266 in 100.3 overs (Rahul Yadav 50, Puneet Mehra 50, Karan Harit 36, Rohit Jhanjharia 31, P.K. Dharma four for 60) vs Tamil Nadu 144 and 33 for no loss in 11 overs. At Bangalore: Karnataka 325 in 135.3 overs v Orissa 293 for five in 129 overs (Sandeep Mulia 72, Gobind Poddar 64, Natraj Behera 73, Ansuman Gope 37). Plate group: At Palakkad: Kerala 188 & 282 for seven in 108 overs (P.M. Jineesh 101 n.o., N.K. Arjun 51, Sajan Salim 49, Rakesh Sharma three for 71, Abhijith Dey three for 69) vs Tripura 253.
