Left parties ask Congress for a policy change

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India (CPI) have called upon the Congress to undertake a shift in its policies in view of the outcome of Assembly elections in Haryana.

In a press release issued after a joint meeting held at Panipat on Wednesday, leaders of the two parties said that 65 per cent of the electorate had voted against the ruling Congress and its 50 out of 90 candidates had been defeated.

They further said: “The people have displayed their pent up anger against the failure of the Congress to solve problems like price rise, unemployment, agrarian crisis, deteriorating law and order and so on.”

False claims rejected

CPI (M) State Secretary Inderjit Singh and his CPI counterpart Raghubir Chaudhary further said that the people of Haryana had rejected the false claims made by the Chief Minister with regard to development on various fronts.

While criticizing the frequent violent attacks on industrial workers in Gurgaon and other places, they also condemned the detention of CPI Member of Parliament and veteran trade union leader Gurudas Dasgupta by the police to prevent him from addressing the workers at Gurgaon.

‘No lessons learnt’

They further alleged that the Congress Government “seemed to have learnt no lessons from the election verdict”.

In a special resolution the left parties also condemned a section of the vernacular media for its highly unethical act of collecting huge amount of money in lieu of giving coverage to parties and candidates during the elections in Haryana.
