bad state: Garbage and debris around the Raghavendra Swamy Math in Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh is yet to be cleared.

Mantralayam/Raichur: The Raghavendra Swamy Math has finalised an action plan of Rs. 35 crore for integrated development of Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh. It has also proposed to construct 500 houses in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh for those displaced by the recent floods.

According to sources, the math has decided to construct 250 houses in Mantralayam village and other flood-hit areas in Andhra Pradesh and another 250 houses in the flood-ravaged villages of Raichur, Bagalkot and Bellary districts.

The math will implement the proposal with cooperation from devotees. It has begun work on 20 houses in Mantralayam.

The math has also submitted a separate Rs. 35-crore proposal to the Andhra Pradesh Government for integrated development of flood-ravaged Mantralayam, including the restoration of infrastructure, augmentation of drinking water supply at a cost of Rs. 3 crore and construction of 1,500 houses.

An expert committee appointed by the math, headed by M.S. Sudarshan, which recently inspected the areas in and around the math, in its interim report, has recommended that the math not allow devotees to Mantralayam for darshan for six months as there was a need to clean the area around the math and improve basic facilities such as drinking water supply, drains, roads and power supply.

However, the authorities concerned have opened the doors of the math to devotees. But most of the hotels and guesthouses in Mantralayam, which were damaged in the floods, are yet to start functioning.
