Maharashtra girls triumph

BANGALORE: Maharashtra capped its superb run with a title triumph in the Shafi Quereshi Cup for girls with a 2-1 victory over the holder Andhra Pradesh in the final of the junior National inter-State badminton championship at Mandya on Wednesday.

The results: Shafi Quereshi Cup (Girls): Maharashtra bt AP 2-1 (Sai Purandare lost to N. Sikki Reddy 12-21, 10-21; Prajakta Sawant & Gauri Ghate bt N. Sikki Reddy & P.V. Sindhu 21-13, 18-21, 21-19; Sanyogita Ghorpade bt P.V. Sindhu 21-14, 21-19). Semifinals: Maharashtra bt Air India 2-1 (Sanyogita Ghorpade lost to Saili Rane 11-21, 17-21; Gauri Ghate & Prajakta Sawant bt Saili Rane & Vaishali Baria 21-12, 22-20; Gauri Ghate bt Anuradha Shrikhande 21-14, 21-15).

Narang Cup (Boys): Semifinals: Air India bt Assam 2-0 (H.S. Prannoy bt Anshuman Bora 21-13, 21-9; Pranav Chopda & H.S. Prannoy bt B. Anjan & B. Ranjan 21-12, 21-16).
