KDSA to organise rural sports from November 9

VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Sports Authority, as per the instructions of the Union Government and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), will be conducting block and district-level tournaments under Panchayat Yuva Khel Kreeda Abhiyan (PYKKA) scheme to encourage sports activities in rural areas.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, B. Sudhakar, District Sports Development Officer, said that 49 mandals in the district were divided into 12 blocks of four mandals each for the conduct of block-level tournament.

“All villages in the respective mandals are eligible to participate in the tournament,” he said.

At the block-level, tournaments will be conducted in kho kho, kabaddi and volleyball for all age groups of boys and girls from November 9 and 10.

Tournaments

For district-level tournament, the participants should be below the age of 18 years as on December 31, 2009. Tournaments will be held in kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, athletics, weightlifting, archery, football, boxing, hockey and taekwondo on November 12 and 13.

Interested players may contact respective mandal in charge to enrol their names.

The players must represent their respective villages only.

The village teams should send their entries through their sarpanch and turn up at the venue on the day of the competition.
