GULBARGA: The seven-day International Dhammakranti Retreat-2009 will be held in Siddharth Buddha Vihar in the outskirts of the city from November 29. This is where Buddhist preachers from countries such as the United Kingdom, Japan and others will deliver lectures on various aspects of Buddhism and the life and contributions of B.R. Ambedkar. Publicity committee convener Devendra Hegade told presspersons here on Wednesday that more than 2,000 delegates from different parts of the country would participate in the residential Dhammakranti retreat. Buddhist preachers such as Dhammachari Subhuti from the U.K., Kumar Jeeva, Nagaketu, Anomdasi, Ratnasheel, Aditya Bodhi, Sheela Parmar, Lokpal, Arun, Shraddhavajri, Maitreveer Nagarjun, Padmaveer, Vijay Ingle, and others will conduct the retreat. RangeMr. Hegade said that this is the first time that such a retreat was being held in Karnataka. Subjects that would be discussed are the basic preaching of Lord Buddha, life and achievements of Dr. Ambedkar, religious thinking of Dr. Ambedkar, the reasons for Dr. Ambedkar to accept Buddhism, the roadmap laid by Dr. Ambedkar for the spread of Buddhism in India and establishment of “prabuddha Bharath”, principles and regulations in Buddha Dharma, regulations to be followed while conducting puja, Dhyana, introducing literature available in Buddhism, and Buddhist movement after Dr. Ambedkar. Mr. Hegade said that the entry fee for the retreat is Rs. 300. The participants would have to compulsorily practice five precepts of Buddhism at the retreat. ScheduleThe daily schedule of the retreat is 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. Dhyana, 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. preparation and breakfast, 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. prayer and discourses, 11.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. discussion, 12.00 p.m. to 1.00 p.m. lunch, 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. rest, 3.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. Dhyana, 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. discussion, 5.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. discussion among the delegates, 6.00 to 7.30 p.m. dinner, 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. cultural programmes, 9.00 to 10.30 p.m. prayer and rest. Reception committee conveners Shivaram Mogha and Vittal Doddamani were also present.
