Mohali: It has almost become a case of the walking wounded as Peter Siddle joined the list of injured Australian players, forced to return home mid-way through the current Hero Honda Cup One-Day series. The seamer, who impressed with his tight last over in the opening one-dayer at Vadodara, and has bowled economically against a strong Indian line-up despite bagging just two wickets in four matches, suffered a side strain during the clash here on Monday night. Siddle bowled just five overs conceding 15 runs and never returned for his second spell after suffering stiffness on his left side while Australia won the match by 24 runs to draw level at 2-2 in the seven-match series. In a Cricket Australia press release, team physio Kevin Sims said: “Siddle’s injury does not appear to be serious but it is unlikely that he will be able to bowl within the next week. With this in mind we have made the decision that Siddle will return to Australia where he will be reviewed by Cricket Australia medical staff.” Siddle is the fourth player from the Australian squad who had to prepone his return ticket after Brett Lee, Tim Paine and James Hopes left for home with injuries derailing their trip across India. The Australian selectors have already drafted in seamers Clinton McKay and Moises Henriques into the squad though a replacement for Siddle is yet to be named. — Principal Correspondent
