Jishnu, Vaisali clinch titles

HYDERABAD: Top-seeded Jishnu Vakaria of Gujarati Seva Mandal and V. Vaisali of Anantapur won the cadet boys’ and girls singles’ titles respectively in the AWASA State-ranking table tennis tournament which concluded here on Tuesday.

AWASA handed over Rs. 2,000 each to the members of the Andhra Pradesh team which secured second position in the National-level table tennis tournament held in Vijayawada last year. The team members were: K. Spoorthy (Vijayawada), S. Akshi (GSM), T. L. Harshita (AWASA) and Saira Banu (Vijayawada).

High Court Judge Justice G. Bhavani Prasad gave away the prizes.

The results: All finals: Men: P. Vighnay Reddy (SPTTA) bt Deepesh Singh (Postal) 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7.

Cadet boys: Jishnu Vakaria (GSM) bt V. Vinay (Vij) 11-3, 11-8, 10-12, 11-13, 11-6.

Sub-junior boys: Purna Srivatsa (SPTTA) bt Arsh Agarwal (SPTTA) 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10.

Junior boys: T. Sai Praneeth (Vij) bt V.S.S. Koushik (AWA) 7-11, 3-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9.

Youth boys: P. Vignay Reddy (SPTTA) bt Gurav Gampa (SPTTA) 11-9, 13-11, 11-8, 11-8.

Women: Nikat Banu (GSM) bt K. Spoorthy (Vij) 12-10, 11-9, 12-14, 10-12, 11-9, 8-11, 14-12.

Cadet girls: V. Vaisali (Atp) bt Naina (LBS) 6-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5.

Sub-junior boys: Purna Srivatsa (SPTTA) bt Arsh Agarwal (SPTTA) 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10.

Electrical Dept. wins

Electrical Department recorded a seven-wicket win over Workshop (Lallaguda) in the final of the South Central Railway inter-departmental cricket tournament here.

N.N. Sharma, Chief Workshops Manager, Lallaguda, gave away the prizes.

The scores: Workshop (Lallaguda) 152 in 20 overs (Sandeeep 41) lost to Electrical Department 153 for three in 19.1 overs (Surendra Naidu 61, D. Aravind 68 n.o.). — Principal Correspondent
