Andhra Pradesh in both finals

BANGALORE: The reigning champion Andhra Pradesh entered both the boys’ and girls’ finals of the National junior inter-State badminton championship at Mandya on Tuesday.

In the semifinals for the Narang Cup for boys, AP trounced U.P. 2-0 with good display from Sai Praneeth and Sumeet Reddy and in the girls’ event for the Shafi Quereshi Cup, AP, with junior National champion N. Sikki Reddy in full flow, beat Delhi 2-0.

Uttar Pradesh and Assam entered the semifinals of the Inter-State junior badminton championship for the Narang Cup (boys) notching up easy wins. U.P. defeated Madhya Pradesh 2-0, while Assam also chalked up a facile 2-0 victory over Chandigarh.

In the girls’ event for the Shafi Quereshi Cup, Air India humbled West Bengal 2-0 and Delhi beat Assam 2-0 and made the semifinals.

The results: National juniors (semifinals): Narang Cup (boys): AP beat U.P. 2-0 (Sai Praneeth bt Shivam Sharma 21-10, 21-10; Sai Praneeth & Sumeet Reddy bt Manu Atree & Shivam Sharma 21-18, 22-24, 21-15).

Shafi Quereshi Cup (girls): AP beat Delhi 2-0 (N. Sikki Reddy bt Nidhi Tewari 21-4, 21-15; N. Sikki Reddy & P.V. Sindhu bt Nidhi Tewari & Shreya Agarwal 21-19, 21-11).

Inter-State juniors (quarterfinals):

Narang Cup (boys): Assam beat Chandigarh 2-0 (Nikhilesh Shama bt Tushar 21-16, 10-21, 21-11; Nikhilesh & Ansuhman Bora bt Tushar & Mahip Singh 21-19, 21-17).

U.P. beat MP 2-0 Manu Atree bt Pratul Joshi 21-18,14-21, 22-20; Manu & S. Sharma bt Aditya Joshi & Nipender Singh 15-21, 21-13, 21-11).

Shafi Quereshi Cup (girls): Air India beat West Bengal 2-0 (Anuradha Shrikhande bt Seshadri Sanyal 21-11, 21-6; Vaishali & Saili bt S. Sanyal & Rituparna 21-11, 21-10).

Delhi beat Assam 2-0 (Shreya Agarwal bt Kaberi Phukan 21-19, 14-21, 21-14; Shreya Agarwal & Nidhi bt Kaberi Phukan & Madhusmrita 15-21, 21-13, 21-16).
