Pranab: spectrum row will be resolved as per MoU
Ashok Dasgupta
NEW DELHI: Even as the Ministries of Defence and Communications are locked in a row over the release of 3G spectrum, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said a decision would be taken according to the existing agreement between the two.
In his interaction with the media at the Economic Editors’ Conference here, Mr. Mukherjee said: “I am aware of the fact that there are some areas of differences in regard to release of spectrum, but in the last few days an MoU was reached between the MoD [Ministry of Defence] and MoC [Ministry of Communications], and I do hope that [a] decision will be taken as per the letter and spirit of the MoU.”
Mr. Mukherjee maintained that the Group of Ministers had given certain directions and the MoC would act as per its instructions. Details of the auction and other things are the job of the administrative ministry, he added.
The Government had projected to mop up about Rs.35,000 crore from the sale of the radio waves (mainly 3G spectrum) to various telecom operators
