BANGALORE: With Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran not attending the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday and following unconfirmed reports of a visit of Survey Department officials, a large media contingent camped in front of his residence off Seshadri Road in the city. The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Survey of India to ascertain whether Justice Dinakaran encroached on a large extent of government land in a village in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. On Tuesday, when the Chief Justice did not turn up in court, rumours started doing the rounds that a Survey Department team had come to Bangalore. At this, mediapersons rushed to Justice Dinakaran’s house but they were barred from entering the premises. The visit of All-India Bar Association president Adish C. Agarwal also created a flutter. It later transpired that Mr. Agarwal had come to Bangalore to invite Justice Dinakaran to a conference to be held in Delhi on November 22 and 23. When The Hindu spoke to the Survey Department in Bangalore, it categorically denied having sent any official to verify Justice Dinakaran’s land records. Meanwhile, office-bearers of the Advocates Association of Bangalore formally wrote to the Chief Justice of India urging him to take a quick decision on the issue of elevation of Justice Dinakaran to the Supreme Court. The letter says matters in Bangalore may go out of the association’s control if an expeditious decision is not taken on the issue. It says if a speedy decision is not possible, Justice Dinakaran may be advised to desist from taking up any judicial work. The letter has been signed by the office-bearers and several senior advocates including R.N. Narasimha Murthy, B.V. Acharya, A.N. Jayaram and S. Vijay Shankar (all former Advocates-General), D.N. Nanjunda Reddy, P. Mahale, T.R. Subbanna, N. Devadas, G.V. Shantaraju and Pramila Nesgari.
