NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday assured students from the North-Eastern States that all necessary measures would be taken for their safety and security in the Capital. According to North-East Congress Committee general secretary Sharif Laskar, the Chief Minister invited the students’ representatives for a meeting on Tuesday that was also attended by senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes and Takam Sanjoy and Thokchom Meinya, Members of Parliament from the North-East, Principal Secretary (Home) G. S. Patnaik, Joint Secretary (Home) R. N. Sharma and Joint Commissioner of Delhi police (Southern Range) Ajay Kashyap. According to Mr. Laskar, Mr. Dikshit assured them that she would look into their demands for special helpline numbers; special patrolling in areas inhabited by them; instructions to police stations to pay extra attention to resolving their problems; interaction programmes between the students and the police every week; and a hostel for them in South Delhi. The Delhi police have already appointed three nodal officers. They can also seek police station by dialling 100, 1090 and 1091.
