KOCHI: The All-India Brahmana Federation has urged the Cochin Devaswom Board authorities not to go ahead with the improper appointment of the ‘melshanthi’ at the Chottanikara temple. K.K. Sankaran Nampoodiri, general secretary of the federation, alleged here on Tuesday that the board authorities had disqualified candidates having at least 30 to 35 years of experience, in the interview for the appointment of the melshanthi held on October 14 and 15. The board has shown injustice to these people who enjoy the respect and love of thousands of devotees, he said. Mr. Nampoodiri said that the eligible candidates would be forced to go on an agitation, if they are denied opportunities for appointment as the melshanthi in the temple. He said that the candidature of senior priests should not be ignored. The federation has also urged the board to ensure that the rituals at the temple were conducted according to the custom.
