Higher bus fares from today
New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi will have to shell out more to travel in DTC and Blueline buses from Wednesday as Government on Tuesday issued a notification paving way for the increased fare.
The Delhi Cabinet last week had approved a proposal to increase the bus fares primarily to meet the increasing revenue shortfall of the Delhi Transport Corporation which is reeling under heavy losses.
“We have issued the notification for the increased bus fares. The new rates will come into effect from tomorrow,” Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said on Tuesday.
The minimum fare of Rs 3 for up to three km has been increased to Rs 5, while the Rs 7 and Rs 10 tickets will now cost Rs 10 (up to 10 km) and Rs 15 (above 10 km) respectively in non-AC buses.
The new fare structure will have three slabs instead of current four which were -- Rs 3, Rs 5, Rs 7 and Rs 10.
In AC buses, the fare will be Rs 10 for a journey up to 3 km, Rs 15 for a journey between 3 and 10 km and Rs 25 for a journey above 10 km. For journey in AC airport services, new fare will be Rs 75 whereas in non-AC airport service, it will be Rs 50.
