Three held for robberies

TAMBARAM: Police have arrested three men who travelled in an autorickshaw targeting elderly women and snatching chains from them in Madipakkam area.

A release said a special team was formed to investigate a spate of crimes committed in a similar fashion by a three-member gang.

The police team picked up three suspects travelling in an autorickshaw in Puzhuthivakkam Balaji Nagar. On interrogation, they confessed to having committed the crime.

Gold jewellery and the autorickshaw were seized from Kannan, Rajendran and Venkatesan.

Detained

A 30-year-old youth was detained under the Goondas Act for one year for his involvement in several crimes in Meenambakkam and Nanganallur since 2006.

A release said S.Suresh had indulged in robberies after threatening his victims at knifepoint.
