21-day refresher course for teachers at university

MADURAI: The Academic Staff College of Madurai Kamaraj University is conducting a 21-day refresher course from November 6 for teachers of history, economics and research methodology in social sciences subjects.

Nearly 90 teachers from various colleges and universities in the State were expected to attend the course, said its Director R. Kannan here on Tuesday.

Experts in these subjects would deliver lectures and conduct special sessions for participants during the programme to be held from November 6 to 26. “The UGC-Academic Staff College of our university has been conducting refresher courses for the past two decades. Teachers of not only Madurai Kamaraj University but also other colleges anduniversities have been benefiting from these programmes,” Dr. Kannan said.

K. Sampath, former Judge, Madras High Court and former president of Tamil Nadu State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, will inaugurate the course.

Vice-Chancellor R. Karpaga Kumaravel will preside over the inaugural function.

Dr. Kannan said that the UGC was providing support to the university in conducting refresher courses for teachers periodically in order to give them in-service training. Besides, the university was also conducting orientation programmes.

Meanwhile, the university’s Academic Staff College on Tuesday started refresher courses for three other subjects — chemistry, physics and biology — and 112 teachers were attending them, he said.
