Oil firms observe Vigilance Awareness Week

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Various programmes for the employees and customers of national oil companies were organised as part of the launch of the Vigilance Awareness Week here on Tuesday.

The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Southern Regional Office, will teach customers to test the quality and quantity of automobile fuels at its retail outlets. The teams from the company would also educate them about checking the fuel density. A quiz competition would be organised for the employees, said Senior Manager (Vigilance) South of BPCL R.Saieeji.

Inaugurating the Vigilance Awareness Week at BPCL office in Anna Nagar, former Central Vigilance Commissioner P.Shankar said all institutions must observe the week and it should not be confined to public sector establishments. Companies such as BPCL must also take up outreach initiatives among schoolchildren. The decline in an individual’s ethical values also reflected in their efficiency level, he added.

BPCL’s General Manager in-charge (South) N.S.Ramu administered the anti-corruption pledge to the staff.

At Indian Oil Corporation’s Southern Regional Office here, Additional Director General of Police in-charge of Civil Supplies CID S.K.Dogra said work culture must include honesty and transparency.

IOC’s Deputy General Manager (Vigilance) J.L.Manoranjan said officers, dealers and distributors were sensitised to the correct practices to be followed through interactive sessions and training programmes.

At the function organised in the Manali refinery of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), former Central Vigilance Commissioner N.Vittal unveiled a special poster and released the company’s revised vigilance manual.

CPCL’s managing director K.K.Acharya said the company adopted innovative methods to enhance transparency in its operations. It recently signed integrity pacts with contractors. CPCL’S Chief Vigilance Officer N.Sankaran and Director (Finance) N.C.Sridharan participated.
