Sailing
Chennai: The 29er class skiffs sailing downwind, coursing through the timid seas of the harbour resembled a wild cat padding across a manicured lawn. Smooth sailingThe speed was there and the mild conditions made for smooth sailing as the 29ers were spared the rolls and the swells that the Optimists had to contend with on the second day of the India International Regatta. Danes Kristian Kirketep Ibsen and Mathias Sletten continued their dominance of the 29er division. The Indians acquitted themselves a little better than they did on day one. No mean achievement considering they were introduced to the vessel barely weeks before the event, as Clynton Wade Lehmann, representative of the 29er class for a training clinic here, pointed out.
Wednesday will be a rest day. The results: 29er: 1. Kristian Kirketep Ibsen & Mathias Sletten (5 pts), 2. Aman Vyas & Sachin Singha (12), 3. Xerxes Bamboat & Krish Makhija (14). Optimist: Race 4: 1. Bernie Choon, 2. Rufus Patrick, 3. Sankalp Kapur. Race 5: 1. Rufus Patrick, 2. Praveen Prabhakar, 3. Upamanyu Dutta. Race 6: 1. Rufus Patrick, 2. Ganapathy, 3. Sankalp Kapur. Overall provisional standings (after one discard): 1. Rufus Patrick (6 pts), 2. Ganapathy (14), 3. Sankalp Kapur (19).
