The General Assembly’s main Political Committee adopted unanimously – without bothering to have a formal vote – an unprecedented 82-nation resolution on disarmament calling for measures aimed at world-wide total disarmament “in the shortest possible time.” The resolution urged the Geneva negotiators – a 10-nation body drawn equally from Western and Communist Powers – to work out in detail and agree on measures leading towards the goal of general and complete disarmament under effective international control. Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, leader of the Indian delegation suggested that the Committee should function under “the umbrella of what is usually called the Summit.”
