Lawyers’ strike hits courts in Manipur

Correspondent

IMPHAL: All courts in Manipur came to a standstill due to a two-day strike called by the All Manipur Bar Association. The protest was against the alleged abduction and detention of advocate M. Ibotombi Sharma on October 25 by suspected militants.

As there was no response from the abductors, the advocates decided to go on strike. Sources in the advocate’s family said that they had not received any communication from any militant outfit. There had been grenade attacks on the residences of some senior lawyers and it is believed that several judges had received extortion letters from militant outfits.
